Looking into Future, Fronter Y

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

This video is a recording of Mr Harald Gjervik’s presentation of new and upcoming improvements in Fronter.

The session was recorded during Fronter User Conference in Norway. As Mr Gjervik points out in the beginning of the video, he is aware of this recording but did not show any objections.

We are excited to see the news Fronter is going to bring to us. Participation in this conference, and other similar ones is mandatory for every teacher interested in digital learning. The conference gathered some 400 teachers and administrators from whole Norway for a period of 3 days gathers on the cruise Oslo-Kiel, hence no way of escaping the conference.

There can be no douth that the major overhall is design. Fronter, beeing born around 1999, has had a desgn problem for years, as it looks like something born from Windows Explorer. The upcoming design and Graphic User Interface, GUI, has been long awaited.

But also several integration goodies, such as Facebook, and extra features like “not delivered” have been missed earlier and we are looking forward to using these features from next year. Although these will be available from January, most schools don’t update until summertime.

Please be aware that the video is around 200 MB, reduced from 800. The “higher” quality will be available to Fronter.com if the wish.

Yes I know. In near future this task will be automated. But today, it isn’t. And Tromso University College is closing its Fronter after summer vacation. So we can’t wait.

Hence, my little video, which also can be seen in youtube.com/biomovie.

Nyheter i Fronter 2009

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

I know, I know. You can always download every single file. But you need to put them in a folder later or create one beforehand. but, my friends, you can also make Fronter create such folders. How? Watch the video.

Things a man has got to to do

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

There are things a man has got to do, so he does them. I think it was first said by John Wayne. That’s in the good old days. Today we need reminders to make us remember what we got to do. Remember the Milk, is one such service. But also Fronter offers such. In this podcast I will present how you can use the to do list to make reminders once you log in to Fronter.

Some news is good news

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Most teachers who use Fronter can handle at least two tools, Hand in and Messages. Not everyone knows about “News”, which basically is a refined version of Messages.

In this podcast I will show one aspect of why News should be used more often, particularly in Tromsø, as messages are frequently used by students at the University. How do you distinguished between course related and private information?

What’s on in Fronter

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I have been one of the lucky participant of the Norwegian Fronter User Conference in 2008. The last session was about what to expect from Fronter in the future. The Magic Ball, presented by Roger Larsen and Harald Gjervik. This amateur video is my way of sharing their thoughts with you.

FUC

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Next week the big happening is Fronter User Conference. The conference is situated in the Oslo-Kiel cruise ship and gathers around 500 administrators, teachers and other users of Fronter to share and inspire new areas of ICT development. Among others we expect representatives from the Norwegian Handball Team, this years Gold Winners in the Olympics in Beijing. We hope to see how they use Fronter in their organization.

Despite the fact that Fronter was born in Tromsø, there are usually very few participents from Tromsø at the conference. Last year only 4 represented the University, University College and Schools of Tromsø. Only one, (ok, that’s me) as teacher. I don’t expect a better statistics this year.

Keeping up with Fronter

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Have you taken a course in using Fronter? Good, but how do you keep up with updates, or maybe you don’t care? If you have difficulties with the former, I hope this video with be of assistance. If you are in the latter category, I’m afraid there is not much hope for you. ;-p
